KARACHI: Former Test Captain Ricky Ponting has re-signed with the Hobart Hurricanes for the Twenty20 Big Bash League. Ponting was with the Hurricanes last season but international commitments reduced his playing time to one match.

"I really enjoyed my short time with the Hurricanes last season and being part of the team’s first ever win (over Perth Scorchers) was something I’ll never forget," he said.

"The side is coming together really well and I am excited to be part of it all again and can hopefully put in some good performances," he added.

The 37-year-old, who retired from limited-overs cricket after being dropped from the Australian one-day squad in February, is still part of Australia’s Test squad.

The Hurricanes, who made the semi-finals last season, have assembled a strong squad, including 2011-12 player of the tournament Travis Birt, former Test Wicketkeeper Tim Paine and Englishman Owais Shah. They begin their campaign on December 9 against Brisbane Heat at the Gabba.
