Prime Minister Ashraf and former Prime Minister Gilani in this meeting which lasted over two hours, discussed wide range of issues including the current political situation of the country.
The Prime Minister also congratulated him on the success of his son, Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani as MNA from NA-151, Multan.
Prime Minister Ashraf said the return of Abdul Qadir Gilani in the bye-elections is an indication of the popularity of the PPP and its a clear message to those who had doubts about the popularity of PPP.
His return is a vindication of the pro-people policies of the government as well as their faith in the present coalition government, he added.
The Prime Minister expressed his confidence that, PPP alongwith its allies would win the coming general elections as well.
He said that Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani's commitment to uphold the constitution will be long remembered.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government's resolve to hold free, fair and transparent elections in the country. The appointment of Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim, an eminent jurist of impeccable integrity should put to rest any speculations about the next general elections, he emphasized.
Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani thanked the Prime Minister for his sentiments. He said that he would continue to work for the party and welfare of the people.
