31 Jul, 2012

The verdict came out in Holmes’ second court appearance today.

Each death carried two separate murder charges, one for showing premeditation and one for showing extreme indifference to life. Both charges carry death penalty as possible sentence.

Survivors and families of some of the victims also appeared for Holmes’ for court proceeding, with many wearing ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and Batman t-shirts.

Holmes was also charged for possession of explosive devices and violent crime.

In total, Holmes faced a total of 142 criminal charges. Prosecutors have 60 days to decide whether or not to seek the death penalty.

Holmes’ attorney can possibly try to stave off a possible death penalty by arguing he is mentally ill. However, prosecutor may file multiple counts of attempted first-degree murder and other charges.
