Speaking to media at the movie trailer launch Johar said that he is as emotional about the project as the actors’ parents.

“The film feels different from any other film that I have directed as I have worked with movie stars who don’t need hand-holding. With these three newcomers, it was a journey like nurturing and parenting them,” he added.

Student of the year cast features a new face Alia Bhatt, the daughter of Mahesh Bhatt. Other key casts include Varun Dhawan, son of comedy film maker David Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra, a former male model.

Both Dhawan and Malhotra worked previously with Johar in “My Name is Khan”.

Johar said that after My Name is Khan, he was really looking for some fun, glamour, dance and songs and that’s exactly what he did in this project.

Student of the Year is being co-produced by Karan and Shahrukh Khan.

The movie is scheduled to be released on October 19.
