Having been sidelined for the last two years, all-rounder Fawad Alam is in contention to earn a shock recall for the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) series against Australia.
The team will be decide on August 8 after the arrival of head coach Dav Whatmore, who is on vacations and presently in Australia with his family.
The team will be selected with the approval of the captain, coach and selectors and will be submitted to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Zaka Ashraf for his approval.
“There is a chance that Shahid Khan Afridi may be recalled in the one day team and Ahmed Shahzad may be included while Misbahul Haq is likely to lead the one-day squad” sources said.
Meanwhile, according to reports, former captain Shoaib Malik and Yasir Hameed are also among the probables for making a comeback in the team. Hameed has not been selected since the tour of England in 2010, while Malik, included in the Twenty20 squad, last played an ODI during the “home” series against England in the UAE earlier this year.
Various discarded players including Abdul Razzaq, Imran Nazir and Kamran Akmal have also regained their places in the Twenty20 squad for Australia series as well as the World Twenty20.
On the other hand, as many as 13 players will participate in the Sri Lankan Premier League (SLPL) so the PCB has not arranged the Pakistan team camp for the upcoming Australia series, the source said adding the player’s participation in the Srilanka Primier SLPL will prove beneficial for the UAE series.
