Matt Bomer too ‘Openly Gay’ to star in Fifty Shades Movie: Esaton Ellis

The 34-year-old Bomer has been linked to the movie version of E. L. James's bestseller, although Ryan Gosling and “Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder are also said to be fan favorites for the male lead.

The “White Collar” star has been praised in both the media and the blogosphere for acknowledging his sexuality, which had been the subject of rampant media speculation, in a surprisingly subtle way when he thanked his partner and children at an awards ceremony in February.

Bret Easton Ellis, the author of novel ‘American Psycho’ which was turned into the hit 2000 film, has taken to twitter to slam the suggestion that Bomer could take on the role of Mr Grey.

Ellis posted on his account, “Okay I'll say it. Matt Bomer isn't right for Christian Grey because he is openly gay. He's great for other roles but this is too big a game.”

“Matt Bomer: I don't care how good an actor you are but being married to another man complicates things for playing [Christian Grey].”

He went onto say that the role “demands an actor who is into women” and claims the press tour would be an “embarrassing fiasco” should he land the part.

Ellis' negative comments have created some serious backlash against him online.

Earlier this year, Bomer went on record to say, “What we really have to do is stop the adjective before the job title—whether it's ‘black actor,’ a ‘gay actor’ or ‘anything actor.’ Everybody thinks that equality comes from identifying people, and that's not where equality comes from. Equality comes from treating everybody the same regardless of who they are.”

Maybe Ellis should take a lesson from Bomer.
