KARACHI: There is a lot of hype around the documentary about Osama bin Laden’s death, “Zero Dark Thirty”, for Oscar nominations way before its release in December.

Director Kathryn Bigelow received positive reviews by critics at the initial screenings of the documentary and was praised to drop clichéd Hollywood techniques to deal with the subject.

The docudrama Zero Dark Thirty is a military code for half past midnight and focuses on a CIA analyst (Jessica Chastain) who is involved in the hunt for the Al Qaeda leader who is killed by Navy SEALs in a night raid at Bin Laden’s hide out in Pakistan. Critics are eyeing the documentary to win nominations in Best film, Best Leading role-Actress (Jessica Chastain), Best Director and Best Screenplay.

Bigelow has already won an Oscar for “The Hurt Locker”, which was based on the Iraq war. Mark Boal wrote the screenplay and has also worked with Bigelow on previous projects.

The movie releases December 19, 2012, which will be well in time to be considered for the Oscars scheduled in February.
