KARACHI: Indian selectors reportedly wanted a new captain and were looking to drop current captain MS Dhoni after eight consecutive losses for India. However the move was not supported by the President of Board of Cricket Control India (BCCI), N Srinivasan according to a former national selector.

Indian media sources cite Mohinder Amarnath as saying “all five selectors supported the decision to replace MS Dhoni and wanted to bring in a younger captain to move ahead and build a better team for the future.”

The former selector was a strong contender to become the new Chairman of the selection committee though Indian media reports claim he was removed on the disagreement of the captaincy issue.

Amarnath also claimed the team was selected by selectors but not the captain and after a devastating defeat at the hands of Australia it was a “unanimous” decision to make changes regarding captaincy.

He also claimed the Board of Cricket Control India did not need any selectors if the top management will interfere and make the decisions.
