The aeronautic company Boeing is soon to buy the maker of drones and advanced robotic systems, Aurora Flight Sciences.

Aurora is an organization focused on the development of autonomous electric aircraft. This move from the renowned firm reassures Boeing’s earlier claims about turning their first self-flying aircraft into reality for military and commercial usage.

As soon as this process of acquiring the company is completed, Aurora will persist to function as its own autonomous subsidiary of Boeing. It will also carry on with its work on manufacturing and developing autonomous aircraft.

Boeing Chief Technology Officer Greg Hyslop stated, “The aerospace industry is going to be changing and the acquisition positions Boeing strategically for whatever that future may be.”

World’s largest plane goes through initial tests

The aircraft’s design includes fixed-wing technology from planes and rotator-wing technology from helicopters. The plane has two large rear wings and two small front canards. The short wings are put up near the aircraft’s nose. Also, the plane’s engine would drive 24 ducted fans: nine incorporated into each wing and three in each canard, according to Daily Mail.

According to Hyslop, the deal might go through regulatory hurdles yet, the company aims to complete the purchase by this year. However, the terms of the deal were not revealed.

Aurora has already designed and flown more than 30 pilot-less vehicles during its 20 years of functioning. The firm is also currently working on LightningStrike XV-24A vertical take-off and landing craft that is an autonomous military airplane currently being funded by DARPA and USAF, informed Tech Crunch.
