Google and Levi’s have collaborated together to make Levi’s’ smart denim jacket for version 2.0.

Levi’s Commuter smart jacket was launched almost three weeks ago. Though the jacket was already full of numerous features, Google has decided to collaborate with the clothing firm under its Project Jacquard for introducing version 2.0. Through its Project Jacquard, Google works on weaving touch technology in fabrics.

At Wall Street Journal’s D. Live conference, the CEO of Levi’s Chip Bergh showed off few features of the jacket. As a demonstration, Bergh swiped his sleeve for telling the time whereas; another swipe informed him navigation directions.

According to Engadget, using conductive fiber, the jacket contains features like a cuff with touch-enabled fabric and Bluetooth connection. This feature could prove to be beneficial for cyclists for controlling their smartphones wirelessly. Bergh exclaimed, “We’ve come up with a solution so people aren’t constantly taking phones out of their pockets.”

Bergh explained that the two firms work on creating a jacket that will end the need of carrying smartphones out even for doing complex tasks, reported CNET.

Bergh however, is positive about this collaboration and hopes that it is just the beginning of wearable computing.

“I’ve been asked the question before, ‘When will you know if this is a success?’ My answer is, ‘I already know it’s a success because we’ve learned so much about how to innovate by partnering with Google’.”

Moreover, Levi’s is also working to make its place in the digital market. They recently launched a chatbot that functions as a virtual stylist.
