A Pakistani cricketer has foiled a spot-fixing bid during the ongoing series against Sri Lanka by reporting the incident immediately after fixers tried to contact him.

Citing its sources, Geo News reported without naming the player that a key member of Sarfraz XI was approached by the fixing mafia’s members. However, mafia's intentions were shot down immediately by the cricketer, who reported the approach to the Pakistan Cricket Board’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) and foiled the attempt to corrupt the game.

The cricketer was approached by a bookie from an international fixing syndicate who made him a spot-fixing offer, ACU officials confirmed.

Prior to the Pakistan-Sri Lanka series, there were reports that bookies were intending to approach players, in view of which the ACU team was already on alert and had tightened curfew timings for the team, the channel added.

It is pertinent to mention here that Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif were handed over five-year ban respectively for spot-fixing during Pakistan Super League.
