National Stadium Karachi has finally been given the much awaited makeover ahead of Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) third edition scheduled to be played in first quarter of 2018.

The renovation of the general enclosure is under way with roof of the stands being fixed. Meanwhile, improvement of sewerage system has also been started. The short term plans have been executed, while long term plans are also being considered to be implemented soon as PSL 3 is only a few months away.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Najam Sethi has already admitted that the condition of the National Stadium is in extremely bad state. “The condition of stadium is not very good and you guys know the reason behind it,” Sethi said while addressing a press conference.

“We are considering to equip the stadium with all modern facilities ahead of the much awaited matches and return of cricket in Karachi. We have a very short time for the renovation work of the stadium,” he added.

The representatives from security consultancy firm Eastern Star International, which works with the International Cricket Council, the Federation of International Cricketers Associations and other such bodies, visited the National Stadium of Karachi on October 23, to compile their report on the venue’s security arrangements for next year’s league.

Among the visiting contingent was Reg Dickason, who was shown around the stadium by Pakistan Cricket Board’s head of security Colonel Azam.

The chairman box, VIP enclosures, dressing rooms, umpire room, control room, scoring tower, media center, ground and parking area were the places analysed by Dickason and co.
