The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has summoned Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Interior Secretary Arshad Mirza at 11:30 am today (Monday) for failing to implement the court's order to end the Islamabad's Faizabad Interchange sit-in.

Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui expressed that the government had failed to follow his orders even when he had given a deadline to disperse the protesters by 10 am Saturday. The judge said he will issue a ‘contempt of court’ order in this regard, local media reported.

Court orders protesting religious parties to end Islamabad sit-in

Justice Siddiqui had ordered on Friday the Islamabad district administration to take whatever measures required to clear the Faizabad Interchange by 10am Saturday. The protesters have been refusing to budge from their ongoing sit-in until the Supreme Court takes notice of the Khatm-e-Nabuwwat oath issue.

Since last 14 days, two religious parties have been protesting against a reversed change in the Khatm-e-Nabuwwat oath in the Elections Act 2017 in their sit-in. In protest to the government’s controversial amendment and reversal in the finality of Prophethood oath for lawmakers, the parties, Tehreek-i-Labaik Ya Rasool Allah and Sunni Tehreek Pakistan, have been protesting.
