Pet translator being made to let people converse with their pets
How many times have you wished to be able to talk to your dog or your cat and understand what they are saying? Well, your wishes might soon come true as researchers are in process to create a pet translator that will let you talk to your pet.
Con Slobodchikoff, an animal behavior expert, has used artificial intelligence (AI) to let pets converse with their owners through a pet translator. However, it may take approximately 10 years to achieve the desired goal and actually make this work.
Slobodchikoff has been studying the rodent prairie dogs (type of ground squirrel) for over 30 years and realized that animals have their own communication and language system. He looked at the videos of dogs showing various behaviors like growling, howling or barking. He used AI to understand these and claimed that through computers in future, humans would be able to entirely understand various gestures of their pets.

Slobodchikoff worked with a computer scientist in order to create an algorithm through which prairie dog’s communication could be converted into English language. He also expanded his work further to understand the behavior and barking of dogs.
Last year, he founded the ‘Zoolingua’ company that developed a similar AI tool to study the expressions and gestures of dogs, reported Tech Times. “If we can do this with prairie dogs, we can certainly do it with dogs and cats.”
Because the process is still at an early stage, not much can be said about it. However, if it proves to be successful, it can be a great help to have effective communication with pets in less than 10 years, letting the owners know what the pet exactly wants. It can also be helpful for farmers to sense pain or diseases of the animals, reported Daily Mail.
