Pakistan, Iran discuss possibility of cooperation in defence industry
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Defence Production, Science and Technology, Rana Tanveer Hussain and Iranian Minister of Defence and Logistics of Armed Forces, Brigadier General Amir Hatami Thursday reviewed the bilateral relations and discussed the possibility of cooperation between the defence industries of the two countries.
Rana Tanveer along with a high-ranking defence and science delegation is on an official visit to Iran at the invitation of Brigadier General Amir Hatami, a press release said.
The two sides also signed a joint statement after the discussion on bilateral issues.
Referring to the statement signed with his Iranian counterpart, Rana Tanveer Hussain said it showed Pakistan was deeply interested in expansion of defence cooperation with Iran and sought new mechanism for formation of joint defence cooperation committee with Iran.
The minister and his delegation paid respect at the mausoleum of the distinguished founder of Islamic Revolution of Iran, Imam Khomeini. They also held meetings with Vice-President of Iran and Minister of Defence and Logistics of Armed Forces.
The Pakistan side thanked the Iranian side for warm reception and hospitality and extended invitation to actively participate in the Defence Exhibition IDEAS-2018. Iranian Minister of Defence and Logistics of Armed Forces also accepted the invitation to visit Islamabad.
