India launched its first’s all-electric high-speed locomotive today in Bihar, which will be flagged off from Bihar’s Madhepura loco factory by the Indian PM.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the all-electric train of the country. The train features a 12,000 horsepower (HP), breaking previous records of the country’s most powerful electric engine of 6,000 HP.

As DNA India explains, this new train will cut down the operating cost for the Indian railways along with dramatically decreasing gas emissions. The double-section electric train has a transportation capacity of 6,000 tons and is able to run a speed of 120km per hour, which means faster and safer transport of heavier weights across the country.

The train is the first big PM Modi’s government initiative Make-in-India project, finished by Alstom of France. Under Alstom’s agreement, the country will also get 800 high HP electric locomotives within the next 11 years at a cost of 3.5 billion euros. Also, PM Modi will probably flag off a new bi-weekly train called Humsafar Express too that will connect Katihar to New Delhi, reported NDTV.

Moreover, Alstom also declared three new contract worth around 75 million euros, which includes a power supply contract from the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL), a contract for new train-sets from the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation and another power supply contract from the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation.
