Surgical goods, medical instruments' export rises by 13.28pc

ISLAMABAD: Surgical goods and medical instruments' export from Pakistan rose by 13.28 percent during first 11 moths

ISLAMABAD: Surgical goods and medical instruments' export from Pakistan rose by 13.28 percent during first 11 moths of current fiscal year compared to July-May (2016-17).

The exports increased to US$348.58 million in July-May (2018-19) from $307.72 million in same period of previous fiscal year, latest data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistic (PBS) suggested.

Meanwhile, export of pharmaceutical products decreased by 8.26 percent as it declined to $179.785 million in the period under review compared to the export worth of $195.98 million during same period of last fiscal year.

On yearly basis, the export of surgical goods and medical instruments increased by 2.46 percent in May 2018 compared to same month of a year ago.

The export increased from $29.3 million in May 2017 to $30.03 million in May this year, the data added.

While on month on month basis, the export of surgical goods and medical instruments decreased by 13.6 percent in May 2018 as compared to that of April 2018 during which the export was recorded at $34.768 million.

The export of pharmaceutical products plunged to $14.786 million in May 2018 when compared with the export during May 2017 (20 million), and April 2018 (15.9 million), thus showing a decrease of 26 percent and 6.9 percent respectively.

The overall exports from the country witnessed an increase of 15.28 per cent during the first eleven months of the current fiscal year as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

The exports from the country during July-May (2017-18) stood at $21.346 billion against the exports of $18.516 billion in July-May (2016-17), showing growth of 15.28 percent.
