Pak Army rescues Russian climber stranded on Karakoram peak since six days
Pakistan Army rescued on Tuesday a Russian mountaineer who was stranded on Biafo Glacier's Latok Peak, Karakoram for six days.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Alexander Gukov was rescued early Tuesday morning in a rescue mission by the Pakistan Army Aviation. The Pakistan Army Aviation carried out the rescue mission under extreme weather conditions, local media reported.
This is the first ever rescue from such a height in Pakistan. The Russian climber has been rescued and shifted to Combined Military Hospital Skardu for medical treatment.
Gukov was stranded for six days at about 20,000 feet on Latok Peak. The Russian climber had run out of food supplies three days ago. Several attempts had been made to rescue him but proved to be futile due to the bad weather, which prevented rescuers from locating and retrieving the climber.
