Former UN Chief Kofi Annan passes away at 80
Former secretary general of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Laureate, Kofi Annan, passed away on Saturday after a short illness.
The news of his death was announced on his official twitter account. The announcement read, "It is with immense sadness that the Annan family and the Kofi Annan Foundation announce that Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Laureate, passed away peacefully on Saturday 18th August after a short illness..."

The 80-year-old Annan was the seventh secretary general of UN from January 1997 to December 2006. He was the first African-American to take on the top job.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal expressed his condolences and wrote, "Pakistan expresses condolences, at the passing away of Mr Kofi Annan, the former Secretary General of United Nations, to his family, friends and the entire UN family."
