Governor inaugurates reconstruction work of Manghopir Road
KARACHI: Sindh Governor Imran Ismail on Thursday inaugurated reconstruction work of Manghopir Road and assured that it will be completed in record time of three months.
Earlier, in a meeting with members of SITE Association in the association's office, the Governor said the development of Karachi was among the top priorities of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government.
Karachiites have given mandate to PTI by electing 14 candidates as members of National Assembly and the party leadership duly acknowledged it.
Prime Minister Imran Khan wanted large scale development of infrastructure and promoting trade and industry in Karachi and make it a very important international city.
The Federal government would provide finance for many important projects including seawater desalination plant, green bus metro project, TP-4 water treatment plant, widening of Northern bypass and re-enforcement of Lyari Expressway for heavy traffic. These would he executed through Karachi Infrastructure Development Company Limited.
The Governor announced to form Government-Citizens Liaison Committee with significant representation of the business community to resolve trade and industry related problems linked to Federal Ministries and the affiliated agencies.
By setting up office of this committee at the Governor House, the business community would be relieved from visiting Islamabad to get their grievances heard and the issues resolved. It would ultimately improve the working efficiency of federal bureaucracy.
He sought proposals of the traders and industrialists' representatives regarding the formation of this committee and about its terms of reference.
He also promised to talk to the Prime Minister for immediate execution of Combined Effluent Treatment Plants in the industrial zones of Karachi.
The industries would also get recycled water from TP-4 treatment plant.
He also promised that all the ditches and patches on the main roads in SITE Area would be repaired as early as possible.
Responding to the demand by Jawed Bilwani, the Governor informed that the Federal Government was providing funds for revamp of Karachi Fire Brigade and agreed to provide fire tenders to SITE Association for quickly reacting to fire incidents in SITE area.
On the concern expressed by Patron-in-Chief of SITE Association and prominent business leader Siraj Kassam Teli on issuance of notices to industrialists by FIA, Sindh Governor said that FIA had not been given any new authority or additional powers.
The current notices were issued to the persons who had not declared their properties in United Arab Emirates and not paid their due taxes. The government would never harass or penalize the legitimate taxpayers, he assured.
Muhammad Jawed Bilwani, Muhammad Zubair Motiwala and other business leaders briefed the Governor about various issues being face by the industries and trade in the city.
