Genuine affectees of Empress Market to be accommodated: Mayor
KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhter on Wednesday said that the anti-encroachment operation at Empress Market, Saddar is being performed in compliance with the orders of Supreme Court and the KMC would also accommodate its tenants to other markets.
He said this while talking to media after inspecting the lifting of debris at Empress Market and surrounding areas of Saddar, said a statement.
He said that the cleaning of Saddar was the first phase while re- settlement of the affectees will be second phase of the operation.
The Mayor Karachi directed the officials concerned to expedite the lifting of debris and cleaning work.
Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Syed Saif -ur- Rehman briefed the Mayor Karachi about the anti-encroachment operation.
He said that all encroachments have been removed and the work of lifting of debris will be completed in next few days.
He said that after completion of anti-encroachment operation in Saddar, the action will also be taken in other areas of the metropolis.
He called upon the encroachers to remove illegal structures from other areas include in-front of Expo Center, University Road, Karachi Zoo and from surroundings and inside of parks, to voluntarily clear encroachment or action will be taken.
Meanwhile, Senior Director Anti -encroachment Bashir Siddiqi has also launched awareness campaign about anti-encroachment operation in all six districts of the city.
The KMC staffers have displayed banners at all important markets and roundabout while pamphlets have also been distributed about the anti-encroachment operation.
