KARACHI: Political activists, rising above their differences on Wednesday, registered deep grief over the killing of Ali Raza Abidi, a former MNA from Karachi, shot dead Tuesday night on the gate of his residence.

Abidi (46) who had only recently announced to part ways from Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was largely respected by people in general including those pertaining to different factions of MQM along with workers from other mainstream political parties.

Ali Raza son of former MQM senator Ikhlaq Abidi started his political career from MQM at one of its most tumultuous times and to a certain extent did manage to dispel misgivings generated over the years.

A senior member of MQM and a current senator talking to APP said the internal strife and divisions within MQM gravely disillusioned the young activist, who had all potential to emerge as a bright face for the party.

"This is tragic and a definite cause of disillusionment for many others," said the public representative.

The very fact that Ali Raza Abidi was denied party ticket for NA-243 during the by polls held this year is also believed to be a cause of dejection for him along with many other committed supporters of MQM.

The slain leader had lost the same seat to Prime Minister Imran Khan during the national polls held on July 25.

Sindh Minister for Law, Murtaza Wahab condoling the loss said Abidi shot dead by yet to be identified assailants is a loss for all those who firmly belief in democracy and writ of law.

Meanwhile citizens from all walks of life expressed their deep grief and concern over the tragic incident feared this may be to thwart efforts being made to restore peace and normalcy in the metropolis.

According to police department officials Abidi, exposed to close range firing, sustained four bullet wounds in the upper part oh is body encompassing neck, chest and arms.

Exact cause of this targeted killing was said to be under investigation with efforts to apprehend the killers found to be following Abidi from his work place to his residence located in Defence Housing Authority, phase five.
