Captured pilot crosses over to India from Wagah after Pakistan releases him
Just like Prime Minister Imran Khan announced a day before, Pakistan has released captured Indian pilot and handed him over to Indian authorities at Wagah Border on Friday, as a peace gesture.
The pilot was accompanied to the border by the International Committee of the Red Cross. The commander was handed over to the Indian authorities after the completion of official formalities, signing of documents and a medical checkup by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
For the return of their soldier, India also cancelled its flag-lowering ceremony, while Pakistan did not change its schedule for the flag lowering ceremony.
The wing commander was received by a senior team of the IAF. The Indian pilot was arrested by Pakistan Army on February 27, after the Pakistan Air Force had shot down two IAF jets.
After his videos had gone viral on social media, India had demanded that Pakistan return their soldier. On Thursday, the premier speaking on the floor of the Parliament had announced that Pakistan will release the arrested pilot on Friday (today) as a peace gesture. "In our desire of peace, I announce that tomorrow, and as a first step to open negotiations, Pakistan will be releasing the Indian Air Force officer in our custody," the premier said.
