ISLAMABAD: The National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), Renewable Energy Association of Pakistan (REAP), Solar Quality Foundation (SQF) and various private sector enterprises from the renewable energy sectors, have joined hands to establish an industry-led Sector Skills Council for the Renewable Energy Sector.

Both the industry and NAVTTC expressed their resolve to work together during a meeting, which was held on Wednesday to share the international best practice of Sector Skills Council to promote public-private partnership.

The partnership will pave way for providing skilled human resource to the industry according to the industry’s demand.

The industry associations and NAVTTC showed their interest to extend their collaboration through signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on March 21, for establishing the Sector Skills Council (SSC) for renewable energy sector.

Speaking at the ceremony, representatives of the Renewable Energy Sector associations appreciated the concept of SSC and showed enthusiasm to take lead in the establishment of the SSCs to improve quality of vocational training.

Chairing the meeting, Chairman NAVTTC, Syed Javed Hassan appreciated the interest of private sector for providing organized support to the TVET Sector.

Executive Director NAVTTC Dr. Nasir Khan appreciated the interest of the associations in the establishment of the councils and mentioned that the interest of private sector will eventually support in mitigating the well-trained human resource gap for the industry.

The establishment of SSC in Renewable Energy will increase cooperation and collaboration between public-private sectors on matters related to setting skills standards, identifying occupational gaps, job placement, apprenticeship, teachers/instructors training and on-the-job training.

The establishment of SSCs is supported by the TVET Sector Support Programme, which is funded by the European Union and the governments of the Germany and Norway, in Pakistan as part of ongoing TVET reforms agenda in the country.
