After being struck by a massive blow where Google has cut off its ties with Huawei, resulting in loss of access to Android, the smartphone maker has issued a statement outlining its contributions to Android.

In a statement issued to The Verge, Huawei mentioned that it had made considerable contributions to Android’s growth globally, while also reassuring its users that will continue to give off security updates too.

“Huawei has made substantial contributions to the development and growth of Android around the world. As one of Android’s key global partners, we have worked closely with their open-source platform to develop an ecosystem that has benefitted both users and the industry.”

Huawei loses access to Android after Google cuts off its ties

Huawei promised to continue providing security updates and after-sales services to the existing Huawei and Honor smartphone and tablet products, which will cover all the devices that have been sold and that are still in stock across the world.

“We will continue to build a safe and sustainable software ecosystem, in order to provide the best experience for all users globally,” Huawei stated.

Meanwhile, the plus point is the US Commerce Department created a temporary general license that restored Huawei’s ability to maintain existing networks and provide software updates to the prevailing Huawei devices, reported Business Insider.

The license scales back the restriction imposed by the US government on Huawei’s buying US goods to help Huawei’s customers. However, the temporary ban lasts for three months and will end on August 19, 2019.

Google recently suspended its business with Huawei, cutting off its access to Android operating system. Soon after, Intel and Qualcomm followed suit and broke off its ties with the smartphone maker. Meanwhile, Huawei is working towards making its own operating system alternative to Android in wake of the US blacklist.
