World's first futuristic space hotel to be designed like a wheel

The idea of constructing a hotel up in space has been around for a while now, and in a first, designs for the world’s first space hotel have finally been revealed.

The futuristic space hotel will be an orbiting space station and will give tourists a spectacular view of the home planet Earth. It has been designed in a 190-meter-diameter wheel shape. The wheel is intended to rotate to that it produces a similar gravitational force that is felt on the moon.

The hotel called the Von Braun Space Station has been designed by The Gateway Foundation. It will accommodate 400 guests and will feature leisure facilities including restaurants, bars, kitchens, toilets, cinema and also educational seminars.

The hotel would be build upon technology which is used in the International Space Station (ISS), but instead of being used for scientific reasons, it would act as an orbiting cruise ship with luxury accommodation and cocktail bars.

Also, unlike the ISS, the hotel will have artificial gravity so that the guests can walk around like they normally do on Earth, instead of flying, making the stay feasible and comfortable, as per The Sun.

Moreover, The Gateway Foundation hopes to have the Von Braun Space Station up and running by 2025, also hoping that 100 tourists will visit the floating hotel every week. Once it’s up and in works, the firm then intends to build an even bigger space hotel able to accommodate up to 1,400 people.

Gateway Foundation’s designer Tim Alatorre told Dezeen, “Because the overall costs are still so high most people assume that space tourism will only be available to the super rich, and while I think this will be true for the next several years, the Gateway Foundation has a goal of making space travel open to everyone.”
