The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Anti-Benami Zone Islamabad has unearthed a mega case of Benami properties of over 3,000 kanals of land involving value of land to the tune of Rs 2 billion. This is for the first time that the FBR's Anti-Benami Zone Islamabad has detected an organized racket including investors of housing societies and their front man involved in Benami transactions to tune of billions.
Majority of Benamidars have revealed to the investigators that they were not aware of the ownership of the land, and that they never made any purchases they have been accused of holding in their names. The FBR's Anti-Benami Zone Islamabad has filed a total of 12 references before the adjudicating authority involving 12 Benamidars owing over 3,000 kanals of land within the territorial jurisdiction of Islamabad-Rawalpindi.
However, the FBR's Anti Benami Zone Islamabad verified the information about the Benamidars from the concerned deputy commissioner of land records office about the purchaser and sellers of the involved properties. The reference-statement of case and reference has been filed under section 22(5) of the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act, 2017. The actual beneficial owner of all these Benami properties is only one person i.e. accused Tauseef, a residence of Islamabad.
The land is located near new airport of Islamabad at the Chakri road and 12 different Benamidars have showed to purchase the land in their names, but the actual owner is the said person.
The FBR's Anti-Benami Zone Islamabad has attached the said assets and framed the case against the actual beneficial owner, and subsequently filed the reference with the adjudicating authority. In records, different Benamidars have lands in their names including 363 kanals land, 208 kanals land, 231 kanals land, 279 kanals land, 120 kanals land, 100 kanals land, 185 kanals land, 74 kanals land, 99 kanals land, 1,160 kanals land, 215 kanals land, and 100 kanals land.
So far, a total 34 references have been filed with the relevant the adjudicating authority including 12 new cases. The total assets attached are 140 and under investigation Benamidar are 727 and assets attached worth Rs 30.5 billion.
The worth of the references filed totaled Rs 14 billion for 34 references.
Meanwhile, the information received from district level about the Benami land revealed that the 28,600 kanals having estimated value of Rs 72 billion. The process has yet to be started on the information received by the FBR's Anti-Benami Zone Lahore.
