cabinetISLAMABAD: The Federal Cabinet on Wednesday reviewed the progress report on implementation of the energy conservation plan and discussed load management in respect of power supply in the country.

Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the Cabinet was informed that boards of divisional electric supply companies and power generation companies have been re-constituted.

She said the Cabinet was informed that vacancies of chief executive officers have been advertised and three candidates for each post have been short-listed.

It was also informed that financial plan to deal with the issue of circular debt would be submitted to the Cabinet in the next meeting by a high-powered energy committee of the Cabinet, she added.

Dr. Firdous Awan said the Prime Minister took the Federal Cabinetinto confidence about his visit to Maldives in connection with 17th SAARC Summit and his meeting with the Indian counterpart.

Dr. Firdous said the Cabinet felicitated the Prime Minister over the title of "Man of Peace"to him by Indian Prime Minister during their meeting in Maldives.

She said the Cabinet also decided that Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar would share the details of achievements in Maldives with the Parliament.

The Minister said ministers belonging to allied parties expressed full confidence in the leadership of the Prime Minister and assured all out support to the government.

She said Cabinet decided that a joint strategy would be formulated to counter the negative propaganda of the opposition parties before Senate polls next year.

She said it was decided that meetings of the allied party heads, will be held and relief measures and challenges, would be discussed.

The Prime Minister sought proposals from the allied parties for provision of relief to the masses and for further strengthening the political system in country, she added.

She said the proposals to be presented by the allied party heads, would be taken up in a special cabinet meeting to be convened for this purpose.

She said the Cabinet decided that supremacy of the Parliament will be protected at all cost and efforts will be expedited to get the pending legislative bills passed as early as possible.

The Minister said that the Cabinet also condemned the murder of three minority community doctors in Sindh and expressed its sympathies with the bereaved families. The Prime Minister said perpetrators of this heinous crime will be brought to justice, she added.

She said a two-member committee has been formed to ensure immediate arrest of the culprits.

The Cabinet assured the minorities in Pakistan that the government will provide security of life and property to their communities. The PM directed the Minister for Religious Affairs Khurshid Shah to visit the homes of the deceased and offer condolences on behalf of the Federal Government and arrange payment of compensation to the bereaved families, she said.
