Police, Rangers seal coronavirus affected areas in Karachi
- Commissioner says corona hotspots will remain under lockdown for a period of two weeks from June 18 to July 2
(Karachi) The police and Rangers personnel sealed coronavirus affected areas in six Union Councils of the city after the provincial government enforced "smart lockdown", media reported on Thursday.
As per details, the areas which were sealed incuded, Muhammad Ali Society, Essa Nagri, Bahadurabad, Soldier Bazar, Frontier Colony, Clifton, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Metrovill, Kharadar, Mominabad, PECHS, Quaidabad, Dawood Chowrangi, Gulberg, North Karachi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal etc.
Commissioner Karachi said that the areas will remain under lockdown for a period of two weeks from June 18 to July 2. In addition, movement of people in those areas will be "strictly restricted" while only grocery shops, pharmacies and convenience stores will be allowed to remain open. No takeaway or delivery will be allowed, he mentioned.
In a bid to curb spread of the disease, the government imposed lockdown in areas where there are an increasing number of coronavirus patients.
On Thursday, Sindh reported 48 deaths which is its highest number of deaths recorded in a single day due to coronavirus. The total number of deaths in Sindh have reached 964. Of them, 664 patients are in critical condition while 97 are on ventilator.
At least, 2,286 new cases were also reported. So far, 34,0487 people have been tested out of which 62,269 people have been infected.
