ISLAMABAD: U.S. Central Command Commander General James Mattis visited Pakistan to consult with the country’s military leadership.
During his visit, General Mattis met with Chief of the Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Khalid Wynne.
They discussed the security assistance mission of the Office of the Defense Representative to Pakistan and exchanged views on regional security issues, including the coalition effort in Afghanistan.
General Mattis and General Kayani reaffirmed their commitment to working closely on common challenges.
General Mattis also met with the new Charge d’Affairs, Richard Hoagland and Embassy staff.
This is General Mattis’ third visit to Pakistan in his eight months as CENTCOM commander.
