tahir-ul-qadriKARACHI: The Supreme Court has questioned Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri over his Canadian citizenship and ordered him to submit documents proving his dual nationality status, the media reported on Tuesday.

During the proceedings, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry asked Qadri that he had not explained in the petition his locus standi to approach the court against the Election Commission of Pakistan.

A three-member bench, headed by the CJ and Justices Gulzar Ahmed and Shiekh Azmat Saeed heard the petition filed by Tehreek-e-Minhaj-ul-Quran chief for reconstiting the ECP.

The court questioned as to how a person with dual nationality who could not become a member of Parliament raise objections over its functioning.

Qadri told the court that he was filing the petition as a voter and not as a Parlimentarian.

Qadri was directed by the court to submit a concise statement today regarding his right to file a petition for reconstitution of the ECP as well as his Canadian citizenship.

Qadri has filed his constitutional petition under Article 184(3) of the constitution, requesting the apex court to declare appointments of chief election commissioner and four other members null and void for not in accordance with the provisions of Article 213 and 218 of the constitution.
