ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has disposed of 581 cases whereas 456 new cases have been instituted during the period from Saturday March 9 to Friday March 15. The backlog remains 18977.
The backlog in the apex Court on 08th March was 19102 cases. As 456 new cases were instituted during the said period, the progressive total of pending cases on 15th March came to 19558 cases, said a handhout.
Out of these, 581 cases were disposed of during the period from Monday 11th March to Friday 15th March. The backlog on 15th March remained 18977 cases.
The Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry constituted various Benches at the principal seat, Islamabad and Branch Registries to expedite the case hearings and clear the backlog.
The CJ and the Judges of Supreme Court remained committed to accelerate disposal of the cases and diminish the backlog. The Judges continued to hear the cases in various benches with the aim to minimize the backlog and provide relief to the litigants.
