ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has felicitated the Christian community living in Pakistan and around the world on the occasion of Easter on Sunday (April 24).
In his message the Prime Minister said that characteristic binds the Christian and Muslim communities in an unbreakable relationship of mutual trust, respect and brotherhood.
The Prime Minister said that Christian community in Pakistan was playing his due role towards the national development in all spheres of life.
He said that from defence to education to health, to politics and social welfare, there is not a single walk of life which does not have the representation and contribution of our Christian brethren.
"They are equal partners in the national development side by side with their other countrymen", he added.
The Prime Minister observed that work in unison for the promotion of peace and interfaith harmony is the way forward towards peace and tranquility in the world.
He said that endeavours must be made to promote respect for our respective religious values and teachings. He added that the forces of terrorism and extremism have threatened to bring down human civilization and destroy our shared values of love, peace and compassion for humanity.
He further said that a handful of radicals with vested interests cannot and should not be allowed to play havoc with the future of our succeeding generations.
The Prime Minister said that "Easter Sunday is the great feast day and culmination of not only Holy Week but the whole year as on this day; the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is celebrated."
He added that "this day is considered the most important day in the Church year, as it is the day on which Jesus rose from the dead."
