imageISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid has said that the visit of Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif to China would be helpful for the economic growth of country.

The projects for infrastructure and investment in the energy sector are on the agenda in the PM's meetings with the Chinese investors, he added.

Talking to private news channels, Pervaiz Rashid said some 1700 mega watt electricity would be added to the national grid in coming days as Rs 320 billion had been paid to the independent power producers, which would ease loadshedding. The remaining circular debt would be cleared soon, he added.

He said the government had directed the departments concerned to speed up work on power projects, such as Neelum Jehlum Hydropower and Nandipur projects for providing cheaper electricity to the masses.

He said the Prime Minister had called a meeting of the heads of all political parties on July 12 to form an effective strategy to overcome the challenges, including terrorism, being faced by the country.

Economic development was necessary to maintain peace and tranquility in the country, he said and added that steps were being taken to boost the national economy.

Replying to a question, he said the government would appoint competent and professional persons as heads of national institutions to ensure transparency.

He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had met high officials during Balochistan's visit for formulating a strategy to restore peace in the province. The government was committed to curb terrorism at all costs, he added.

He said the Federal Government would provide all assistance to the Sindh government for restoring peace in Karachi.
