QUETTA: Balochistan Government is going to devise a plan to conduct local government elections in the province.
Well-informed official sources told APP, here on Monday that Balochistan government was ready to conduct local bodies' elections in the province following the observation of the Apex Court and the decision of the federal government.
"After the Punjab and Sindh governments have decided to conduct local government elections, the Balochistan government has also taken decision to conduct local bodies' elections before the end of prevailing financial year," they said.
Official sources, however, said that it could not be decided so far whether these elections should be conducted on party basis or non-party basis.
They said that some coalition partners in the Provincial government of Balochistan were supporters of the idea to conduct LG elections on party basis adding that however, some others want the elections on non-party basis.
It is important to mention here that the Supreme Court of Pakistan in its observation during hearing into cases pertaining to Balochistan has emphasized the need to conduct LG elections in Balochistan without any delay.
Official sources said that after the holding of by-polls in one National Assembly and three Provincial Assembly seats, the Balochistan cabinet would be expanded as more ministers would be inducted from coalition parties including Pakistan Muslim League-N, Pashtoonkhawa Milli Awami Party, National Party and PML-Q adding that after that, new cabinet members would be assigned task to design a policy for holding of local bodies elections in the province.
It is remembered here that Provincial Minister and PKMAP leader Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal had said that their government would enact law for conducting of LG elections in the province.
"Previous government could not legislate on LG elections, however, the incumbent government has decided to move to the Balochistan Assembly for legislation in this regard," he said.
He, however, said that it was yet to be deiced whether LG elections should be conducted on party basis or non-party basis in Balochistan.
