imageFAISALABAD: State Minister for Water and Power Chaudhary Abid Sher Ali said the government was committed to eliminate corruption, nepotism, favoritism and stealing of electricity from the power sector.

He said, no one would be spared if found involved in misappropriation, abuse of powers and causing losses to the national kitty.

Speaking at an open court here on Sunday, Abid Sher Ali ordered the chief executive Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) for suspension of a sub-divisional officer (SDO), a meter inspector and a meter reader on complaints that they were involved in taking gratification.

The minister said the government would not tolerate stealing of electricity and wherever a case of power stealing was found, the concerned SDO and Xen would not only be held responsible but they would also be taken to task.

The minister said a vigilance cell was being set up which will evaluate performance of FESCO employees round-the-clock and whosoever found lethargic and having bad reputation would be kicked out from the service.

A comprehensive strategy had been evolved for screening the distribution employees right from line man to chief executive and no one would be spared if found guilty of corruption, nepotism, favoritism and poor service, he added.

The minister said he would personally pay surprise visit throughout the country to view the performance of the power sector officers and will issue at the spot order for removal from service and other disciplinary action if they found guilty of nepotism, corruption, etc.

Abid Sher Ali said he would also hold series of open courts at all major and small cities to bring visible change in the working of the distribution companies and resolving grievances of consumers at the spot.

He said all the chief executive of distribution companies had been asked to put up complaint boxes in front of all offices of SDOs, Xens, SEs and other functionaries so that consumers may lodge their complaints without any hassle.

"Such complaints will be brought into the record black and white and he would personally monitor the follow-up action on such complaints. The consumers will see prompt action on their complaints and redressal of their grievances on priority basis," Abid Sher Ali said.

He said Nawaz Sharif government believed in transparency, merit, equity and would create a culture of rule of law in the power sector which was at the lowest ebb when our government assumed the power.

On the complaint of one consumer, the minister ordered for suspension of SDO Ahmad Kareem, Meter Inspector Rana Muzaffar and Meter Reader Shehzad Khan and directed the FESCO authorities to take disciplinary action against them.
