PESHAWAR: Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said on Saturday that eliminating corruption and other crimes from the society by provision of justice was the joint responsibility of the bench and bar.
He said there are no short cuts for success in life for anyone.
This he said while addressing a ceremony on the occasion of certificates distribution among the lawyers who got enrolment in the Supreme Court here.
The chief justice said the important responsibility of interpretation of the constitution is on the shoulders of the judges, which needs full cooperation from the bar. “As a nation we will have to be steadfast on the principle of supremacy of the constitution and rule of law,” he said.
The chief justice said the lawyers should avoid following the false cases and causing unnecessary delay in the cases. “Judiciary is an important pillar of the state and we should be dominant for fulfilling our responsibility,” he said.
Justice Iftikhar said the judiciary also strengthens other state institutions by resolving disputes. He said the judiciary can play its role in national development by demonstrating strength of character and professional excellence. “I don’t think the bench and the bar are any different. The purpose of all our struggle should be to ensure supremacy of the constitution,” he said.
The chief justice congratulated all the newly enrolled lawyers and said enrolment for the Supreme Court is an important milestone in the career of a lawyer. He said the lawyers being the custodians of the human rights are expected to ensure access to justice for all the litigants.
