WASHINGTON: Four US Marines died Wednesday in an accident at a training range at Camp Pendleton in California, officials said.
The incident occurred during a "range maintenance operation," the Marine Corps said in a statement, without providing further details.
Range maintenance usually refers to the detonation of ordnance, officials said.
"The cause of the accident is currently under investigation and more information will be provided as it becomes available," the Marine Corps said.
In March, seven Marines died and eight others injured at Hawthorne Army Depot in Nevada when a mortar bomb exploded during a live-fire training exercise.
