ISLAMABAD: Former Coach Mohsin Hassan Khan has advised Umar Akmal to play long innings as he is capable of doing the same.
"I use to tell Umar that you aren't a batsman who just scores 20-30 runs. You are a player who should score 120-130," said Mohsin while talking to a TV channel.
He said coaches should give Akmal the example of MS Dhoni, Sangakara and even De Kock, the way these wicket-keeper batsmen play.
Mohsin said the wicket-keeper batsman (Akmal) played a great knock in the second ODI but he could get out easily on some of the shots.
"When a world class player is playing such shots- then you can assume that he is doing that to keep his place as a keeper," he added.
The former coach said Umar Akmal was being told to become a full time wicket-keeper and if he scores 10-20 runs that will be enough, adding, he should rather be directed to score healthy runs besides keeping wickets.
Umar Akmal has got poor defense and that is the biggest flaw in his batting, Mohsin concluded.
