ISLAMABAD: Former captain and chief selector Wasim Bari has supported the idea of current skipper Misbahul Haq carrying on till the World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand.
"On the strength of his batting form, Misbah deserves to continue till at least the World Cup", Bari said in a talk at a private TV channel.
He said Misbah was the mainstay of othewise brittle Pakistan batting right now and in his absence, the batting would further weaken.
"The time available till the World Cup is rather short and Misbah's replacement can't be found at such a short notice", said the man, who was one of Pakistan's best-ever men behind the stumps in the 1970s.
To a question about the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, the former wicket keeper-batsman said the Islanders could hold their own in One Day Internationals and Twenty20s, if not the Tests.
"They have competent players in limited-overs cricket like Kulasekera, Pereira, Chamndimal etc., besides the old stalwarts like Sangakarra and Angelo Matchew, and could Give Pakistan a tough time in the ODIs and T20s", he said.
He said he was tasked by the Pakistan Cricket Board to educate upcoming players about the perils of corruption and fixing in cricket after the 2010 tour of England by Pakistan.
"I educated almost 1,000 players about the consequences of involvement in malpractices", he said, expressing confidence that the exercise would yield positive difidends across the board.
