ISLAMABAD: All-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi has voted in favour of former batsman Inzimam-ul-Haq for the position of batting coach saying that the team needs a mentally and technically strong coach like him.
"Inzi bhai can be an excellent option for batting coach as the guys still respect him a lot in the dressing room," said Afridi while talking to a private TV channel.
It is worth mentioning here that a number of names had been surfaced in recent past for the key post of head and batting coach for the national side, Inzimam being one of them, after the PCB decided to hire one of the former players for the job.
He said as a bowling coach Muhammad Akram was taking the team along in a decent manner, for which, credit should be given to him.
Appreciating the performance of Sohaib Maqsood, Afridi said there was a dire need of an aggressive middle-order batsman and Pakistan found the same in the shape of Maqsood.
"There is every ability in Sohaib Maqsood to become a star if he uses his talent to perfection," the all-rounder added.
He said absence of international cricket was affecting the game badly, however, the soft image of the country can be presented while supporting the domestic cricket.
Afridi said the series against Sri Lanka would be a good one as both the teams were aware of each others' strengths and weaknesses.
"We should not have lost to South Africa at UAE as the conditions there suits us a lot, however, they played very well," he concluded.
