ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani Thursday took notice on news for giving access to one media group for the coverage of the Full Court Reference held in the honour of outgoing Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
The Chief Justice directed Additional Registrar of the Supreme Court to inquire the matter and submit report about the facts.
According to a press release issued by the Supreme Court here on Thursday, the chief Justice who also took oath of his office on same day took notice on the note of the Registrar of the Supreme Court.
The Registrar of the Supreme Court submitted a note about the incident containing the details that it was widely reported in the electronic and print media that only one "Media Group" was given access inside the Court Room No. 1 to have an exclusive footage of the proceedings of Full Court Reference on Wednesday.
It may be mentioned here that It was alleged that the Supreme Court administration had been discriminatory in its treatment of journalists by favouring one Media Group as against others.
In protest, the journalists, covering the Supreme Court proseedings, announced a boycott of the subsequent functions held in the Court.
"The report portrays a some what negative perspective of Supreme Court even though it strictly follows the policy of absolute neutrality and impartiality", the press release added.
After going through the contents of the note, the Chief Justice of Pakistan passed the following order: Let Additional Registrar hold an inquiry and report."
