BOGOTA: Colombia registered cumulative annual inflation of 1.94 percent in 2013, the government's statistics office said on Saturday, the lowest the country has seen since 1955 and a level which fell below the central bank's 2 to 4 percent target range.
Cumulative price increases in 2012 totaled 2.44 percent. Consumer prices rose 0.26 percent in December compared with a rise of 0.09 percent in the same month of 2012.
In a Reuters poll, analysts had forecast rolling 12-month inflation through December at only 1.91 percent.
At its last monetary policy meeting, Colombia's central bank left the benchmark interest rate steady at 3.25 percent, and minutes of the meeting published on Friday indicated the bank was likely to maintain an expansive monetary policy for now as growth picks up without stoking inflation.
