ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Tuesday unanimously adopted a resolution urging the government to take immediate measures for resolving the issue of construction of dams by India on the waters of Pakistan.
Speaking in response to the resolution moved by Ms Belum Hasnain, Minister for States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) Lt Gen Abdul Qadir Baloch said water was the matter of life and death of the country. Pakistan had inherent right on three rivers - Indus, Jhelum and Chenab.
He said due to the construction of dams by India the power production from Neelum-Jhelum had decreased by 10 percent.
Abdul Sattar Bachani of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) said future wars would be fought on the issue of water. He urged the government to strengthen the country's agriculture.
Shahabuddin said small dams should be constructed in the country for preserving water.
