KARACHI: President, Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Zakria Usman has shown his concern over non-completion of Lyari Expressway; which was scheduled to be completed in December 2009.
In a statement here on Friday, FPCCI chief said the project was commenced in 2002 and so far 67 percent of its work has been completed.
He drew the attention of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif towards the delay in construction of Lyari Expressway and requested him to direct National Highway Authority (NHA) to complete the expressway on top priority basis.
Zakaria Usman said the government should remove all impediments in construction of the Lyari Expressway and provide maximum relief to the masses by completing this important project.
FPCCI's Vice President Ismail Suttar added that due to tremendous increase in the traffic and frequent traffic jams causing difficulties to the people mainly those traveling in South and West districts of the city.
Ismail Suttar , who is also President of Lasbella Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( LCCI), said that the traffic between Karachi and Hub town of Balochistan onwards Quetta through RCD Highway and Northern Bypass has also increased. This causes delay in reaching the destination due to mismanaged traffic on both the roads providing links for Baluchistan and Sindh.
The flow of the traffic between industrial area of Hub and other parts of Lasbela and Shershah also remains disturbed leading to traffic jams. The completion of Lyari Expressway will greatly help in easing the traffic flow in the city especially between South and West of Karachi.
