imageISLAMABAD: A solo exhibition of unique and exclusive modern calligraphic paintings by renowned artist Jamil Naqsh started here on Friday at Tanzara Gallery.

This exhibition titled "The Supremacy of Letters" is an extensive body of calligraphic work resulting from an indepth study of lines in the Arabic calligraphy, using them not only for their divine and spiritual connotations but also for their inventive forms. The exhibition emphasizes the Alphabets simplicity of form and highlighting their pictorial patterns, Naqsh successfully takes liberty in translating the Arabic alphabet into exquisite linear rhythms in numerous styles of script.

He emphasizes on the Arabic scripts linear charm, curves, loops, circles half circles allowing meandering lines to create their own magical effect.

The work in these paintings is imbibed with vibrant coloration and texture. The compositions are balanced and the letters accommodated within a scheme of rhythm and flow. There prevails an atmosphere of ease and fluency bringing a soothing uplifting touch.

Highlighting the painterly quality without adding any external element Naqsh shows his respect to the purity and supremacy of letters.
