Commission set up to probe Saleem Shahzad murder
ISLAMABAD: Accepting the demands of journalists, the government has set up a commission headed by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court Justice Saqib Nisar to probe into the murder of journalist Saleem Shahzad.
Federal Information Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Thursday announced the government had accepted their demands and the commission was formed to investigate into Saleem Shahzad’s murder.
Dr Firdous Awan, while addressing the journalists’ sit-in in front of the Parliament House, said that Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has signed the summary to appoint Justice Saqib Nisar as the head of the commission.
Leaders of various political parties including PML-N Quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman also joined the sit-in to express solidarity with the journalists protesting for acceptance of their demands.
