imageISLAMABAD: Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid said on Tuesday the new form of terrorism, which was imported by Tahirul Qadri from abroad, would be dealt with joint efforts.

Talking to the media persons during his visit to the DHQ Hospital, Rawalpindi to inquire after the health of police officers, who were injured in the clash with the workers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) on Monday, he alleged that the "bandits of Tahirul Qadri" tortured the policemen brutally on his (Qadri's) behest.

The police personnel were there to provide protection to the passengers and their families and even that of PAT chief (Tahirul Qadri) but his "goons broke their limbs and bones and targeted their sensitive body parts", he added.

"Those, who fight the terrorists and sacrifice their lives to ensure our safety, were brutally tortured by frenzied PAT workers with big sticks."

The minister said the attack on policemen was highly condemnable and regrettable.

"I condemn this new form of terrorism and the entire Pakistani nation, including civil society, parliamentarians and media, stand by the brave soldiers," he added.

To a question, Senator Pervaiz Rashid said attempts were being made to divert focus of the armed forces from North Waziristan operation where they were playing a great role in elimination of terrorism. Some elements were staging dramas at airports in their efforts to divert attention from internally displaced persons (IDPs), who were guests of the entire nation, he added.

He said the government on one hand would deal with the elements trying to destabilise Pakistan at this critical juncture and on the other, it would welcome IDPs with open arms.

The minister said like former dictator Pervez Musahrraf, Dr Tahirul Qadri had come to Pakistan on his own free will, but his departure abroad would be decided according to the law, which would take its due course.

He said 180 million people of Pakistan could easily accommodate a few hundreds of thousands countrymen from North Waziristan, who had left their homes for a better and peaceful future of the country. He appealed to all to donate at least one water cooler each for the IDPs as the holy month of Ramzan was around and they would get reward from Allah Almighty manifold.

Replying to a question about the North Waziristan operation, he said it was going on very successfully and hundred per cent results had been achieved so far. The armed forces were fighting the terrorists in a very difficult terrain in very hot weather conditions and the entire nation was standing by the brave soldiers, he added.

Earlier, he visited various wards of the DHQ Hospital to enquire after the health of about three dozen injured police personnel. He directed the hospital management to provide the best medical treatment to them for their early recovery.
