The Ice Bucket Challenge is going viral these days globally with many celebrities and renowned faces dumping bucket of ice cold water onto them.
Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari and Asifa Bhutto Zardari, daughter of former president of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardasdi has also attempted ‘ALS Ice Bucket Challenge’.
Recently, Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari the Chairperson of women wing of Pakistan people’s party (PPP) has shared a video in which she dumped an ice bucket on her head and challenged her younger sister Asifa Bhutto to do the same.
The Ice Bucket Challenge, sometimes called the ‘ALS Ice Bucket Challenge’ is an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on one’s head to promote awareness of the disease ‘Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis’ (ALS) and encourage donations to research. It went viral throughout social media during mid 2014. In the UK, people participate in the challenge for the ‘Motor Neurone Disease Association’.
Though, this activity was initiated for a social cause but it’s being criticized by many.
In underdeveloped countries where there is shortage of water and people can’t find clean water to drink they find this activity as ‘unnecessarily wastage water’.
While other criticisms include adverse health effects, use of animal experimentations on research, it’s more fun than a social cause etc.
