‘Baghban’ director Ravi Chopra died at 68 on Wednesday at the Breach Candy Hospital. He was reportedly suffering from a severe lung ailment since the last few years.
A source close to Ravi Chopra's family said, “Ravi passed away at around 3:30 pm. His funeral most probably will take place tomorrow at around 11:00 a.m. at Pawan Hans, Vile Parle”.
Filmmaker Ravi started his career as an assistant producer of the 1972-release ‘Dastaan’, directed by his father. Ravi Chopra commenced his directorial journey in 1975 with ‘Zameer’, starring Amitatabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna and Shammi Kapoor. Ravi Chopra is the son of legendary producer and director B.R.Chopra and nephew of producer/director Yash Chopra. His cousins are Aditya Chopra and Uday Chopra in Bollywood film industry.
Actress-Politician Hema Malini took to Twitter to pay tribute to the late filmmaker saying, “Ravi Chopra is gone, leaving behind a void. He was like family and I will miss him. Rest in peace dear friend (sic)”
Ravi Chopra also directed hit TV serial ‘Mahabharata’, produced by his father BR Chopra. He had produced movies like ‘Bhoothnath’ and ‘Bhoothnath Returns’. Ravi is known for popular films such as 'Zameer', 'The Burning Train', 'Mazdoor', 'Dahleez', 'Baghban' and 'Baabul’.
